Are you looking to make some updates and improvements to your Washington State home’s kitchen? If so, you’ll want to pay attention to some trends in kitchen renovations.

Renovating your kitchen is an excellent way to improve its look, increase the value of your home and, appeal to a more diverse range of home buyers if you decide to sell. However, a kitchen remodel can easily cost $10,000 to $50,000 or more, which is why you want to make choices that you can live with.

The kitchen is the most important room in the home and is one that plays a key role in the overall value of a property. It’s not just where meals are prepared but also where family and friends congregate and socialize with each other. The condition and style of a kitchen makes a big difference in both the aesthetics of a home and its value. If the room could use some updating, it may be time to make some improvements.

Learning more about some of the hottest kitchen trends in Washington can help you decide what you want and don’t want in your kitchen.

Traditional Is Back

Trends come and go, but the classics remain constant. One of the hottest renovation trends is a more traditional look. Homeowners today are no longer attached to trendy colors and modern designs; they want homes that have a more traditional look and will retain that traditional look for years to come.

There are also some reports that homeowners will use oil rubbed bronze and darker pulls and handles on cabinets and drawers as opposed to flashy and contemporary chrome accents. Other trends include rustic farmhouse tables, double porcelain sinks, and natural stone counters.

Hardwood Floors and More

Experts predict that 2020 will bring a return to darker wood colors for cabinets, tables, counters, and even floors.  Yes, hardwood floors are becoming extremely popular, especially in the kitchen. There is just something unique and inviting that only hardwood floors can bring to a modern kitchen.

Going Green

It’s hard to go anywhere today without seeing or hearing about green decorating trends, and those trends carry over into kitchens. Homeowners want products made from recycled materials and the chance to “go green” at home. Adding a recycling center is just one of the hottest trends for the kitchen.

Designers also found that homeowners want counters and floors made from recycled or sustainable materials. Bamboo is a sustainable construction material that works well in flooring applications. Homeowners can also find counters made from old tires, soda bottles, and other recycled goods.

Smart Kitchens

In addition to going green, people want the kitchen of the future.  The reality is that technology has become integrated into practically every function and appliance. As a result, many homeowners either start their smart kitchen from scratch or incorporate sensors, smart devices, lighting, along with other high-tech gadgets for convenience.

More Space and Effective Storage Solutions

Ask anyone what they need in their homes, and the odds are good that many will say they need more space. Recessed lighting is one trendy accent that adds more space and reduces the number of fixtures and cords hanging down from the ceiling. Other ways to add more space include adding an island with storage to the center of the room and cutting down on the number of cabinets lining the walls.

There are a number of trendy ways that you can renovate and change your kitchen. Going green, adding more space, and bringing in traditional elements are just a few of those ways.

Dark Colors for Cabinetry

White has long been the color of choice for kitchens, and it’s not uncommon to see all-white kitchens these days. But while white is certainly still in style, we are seeing more and more darker hues adorning modern kitchens.

While it may have been an accent color at most, black is a popular tone in kitchen design these days. Cabinets and counters are being covered in this dark and mysterious color, so it may be one that you might want to consider incorporating into your kitchen design.  Many designers are using dark colors with eye-catching backsplashes and adding a pop of color to other kitchen staples like the kitchen island or additional free-standing storage (hutches, china cabinets, etc.).

Double and Single Level Multipurpose Islands

Islands have become increasingly popular in kitchens, and they’ve almost become a staple. They offer plenty of additional counter space while also playing a role in the room’s overall décor.

But these days, we’re increasingly seeing not one but two islands in the kitchen. Double islands are doable when the space permits but can help provide more counter space while also allowing each island to serve specific purposes. If homeowners choose not to opt for a double island, then the single level multipurpose island with a large quartz countertop takes center stage.

Connecting with the Great Outdoors

Lastly, homeowners absolutely love indoor/outdoor living. Thus, it is no surprise that they are connecting their kitchens to their home’s outdoor space or patio. Here, this is an easy and inexpensive renovation which can be done by installing more windows or larger windows and considering glass doors for kitchen patio doors.

Ultimately, these are just a few kitchen trends that are taking the state of Washington by storm. Nevertheless, these minor updates can change the entire look and feel of your home, as well as increase your home’s value, so they are definitely worth considering.
